Harvesting and Soup making at school.

On Thursday 19th September children from 1st, 2nd and 3rd class went out to the school garden to harvest it. They went out in groups with Gill and Sarah our S.N.A. Each group got a turn to harvest. The vegetables they have in the garden are: carrots, potatoes, onions, beetroot, runner beans, peas, strawberries, garlic, wild flowers and sunflowers.

After the vegetables was all picked 4th, 5th and 6th class made soup. First we washed and sorted the crops. Next they set up the gas stove which Mrs. Lawson brought in. After that she called out some people to come peel carrots and chop onions. Each group did something. They first put butter in the pan and onions and carrots and sweat the vegetables. Then put the rest of the cropped vegetables in. When they were soft and cooked it was smoothed with a blender and served out.

Caroline Mullally brought extra bowls and spoons and Mrs. Binions class made brown bread to eat with the soup. The children loved their soup.

Harvesting and soup making at school.

On Thursday 19th September the children from our school were busy. Children from 1st 2nd, and 3rd class harvested all types of vegetables eg. Carrots, potatoes, onions garlic, strawberries and peas in the school garden. Geraldine Fitzgerald did a lot of work in the garden, even over the holidays.

Gill and Sarah the school’s S.N.A’s helped harvest. The classes came out one by one. The crops were washed and sorted, 4th, 5th and 6th made the soup with the help of their teacher Mrs. Lawson. The veggies were washed, peeled and chopped they cooked it all in a big sauce pan and pots.

They had to feed the whole school so 3 saucepans of soup were made. Mrs. Binions (the middle room teacher) made dread with her class and the whole school enjoyed soup and bread in bowls from their own homes. A delicious lunch was had by all.

Senior School Tour                                                                                         June 2013
On Monday 24th June the pupils from the middle room and senior classroom set off for Dublin on their School Tour. 1st, 2nd & 3rd classes with their teacher Mrs. Binions visited Newbridge House and Open Farm Donabate.

4th, 5th & 6th classes with their teacher Mrs. Lawson headed for the city centre. We got off the bus at St. Stephen’s green and onto the aqueous vehicle which took us on the Viking Splash Tour, but not before donning our Viking helmets and learning how to scream at the Celts. The tour took us through the streets of Dublin passing down along the Liffey by the Hapenny Bridge and near Liberty Hall. Finally we reached the grand Canal Basin where we entered the water to rapturous screams having put on our life jackets. It was great fun. After Viking Splash Tour we visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral and had our lunch in the little park beside the cathedral. It was then on to Cabinteely Park for the best part of the day. We had great fun climbing, sliding and using the zip line.

Glendalough Day

On 15th May the middle & senior classes went to the Wicklow Mountains National Park for a Nature Day. The theme was Bio Diversity. We had a wonderful time doing bug hunts, scavenger hunts and blindfolded tree recognition. Before we went home we had a wonderful game of bats & insects. We learnt lots about wildlife and had great fun as well.
Camping in the School Grounds
On Thursday 27th June, 5th & 6th class pupils camped out (as is traditional) in the school grounds. There was great excitement as the tents went up. We are most grateful to Amanda Jordan, Anthony Bolton and Leeson Woods who helped with this event. We didn’t get much sleep but lots of fun.
